Who doesn’t love minions? They are the cutest little creatures that both adults and kids LOVE! So what better chocolate to make than a minions homemade “Reese’s” cup thats actually pretty healthy for you. As long as you don’t eat all of them… although they are so scrumptious I wouldn’t blame you if you did! This is another super easy recipe that you can make in advance and keep in the fridge as a go to snack.
The dark chocolate provides relief for those of you out there on a health kick but wanting a candy bar along with added protein from the almond butter/ peanut butter. This is also a great treat for the kiddos when they get done with chores and you want to give them something sweet that isn’t super high in sugar.
Okie dokie.. so for the “Minion mold” I personally got mine from stater brothers with a few boxes of jello, but if stater’s doesn’t have the molds good news is I also found them on amazon.. just type in “Minion chocolate mold”
This is the set that I got from stater brother’s:
Besides the minion mold you will also need:
- coconut oil
- dark melting chocolate
- 1 cup peanut butter or almond butter to start
At this time add the chocolate to a bowl with about a tbsp of coconut oil and heat in the microwave. I would start out with 1 minute 30 seconds, take it out and stir with a spatula then continue for about 30 seconds till the chocolate is nice and melted. If you need to add a little more coconut oil to make it nice and smooth that’s fine.
When your chocolate is nice and smooth use a large spoon to drizzle the first layer into the mold. Make sure to poor a generous amount that covers the bottom half of the mold. When you fill your molds go ahead and stick them in the freezer for 5 minutes
While the molds are cooling I like to heat p the peanut butter/almond butter, so its just as easy to poor into the molds and it doesnt end up clumped more in one section. Take the molds out of the freezer and drizzle the desired amount of peanut butter or any other nut butter over the cooled chocolate. Then right on top of the peanut butter add the last layer of chocolate (You may need to re-heat it). Let it cool in the freezer for at least 20 minutes before popping out of the molds!!
Annnnddd there you have it… you end up with these Scrum-Ditilly-Umptious chocolate bars.. Are they not ADORABLE?!

Hey guys! I’m sure just like me you guys tried to do a lot of research as to the pros and cons of breast feeding.. what you should eat.. so on and so forth right? I mean there is so much information it makes your head spin doesn’t it? Believe me I know how your feeling, specially if your like me. A first time mom, still learning to juggle everyday chores and everything else.
Now lets get down to MY “nitty gritty.” I put my in bold because I’m speaking strictly from my experience. Breastfeeding is HARD! No doubt about it! I mean between cracked and sore nipples, painful boobies when they fill with milk, being bitten or clamped on because baby is frustrated.. the list goes on and on. Even with all the discomfort though I feel privileged to be able to breast feed, why? Because some mother’s either can’t or choose not to.
Don’t get me wrong they’re is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with feeding formula. Don’t listen to all those butthead’s out they’re if you are a mother who chooses to feed formula or your boobies just didnt want to keep up. I have had to feed formula because of not producing enough but also reasons that have to do with my food which I will get to..
But lets get back to you mommas who are breast feeding. This is a serious nitty gritty conversation about what no one told me when it comes to feeding my little one. If your like me the Dr mentioned having a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water right? But what does that mean? Honestly my version of healthy is eating chicken, broccoli and brown rice and having some fun meals a few times a week. Just remembering to eat is a task in itself when you first come home, but what I’m about to tell you will probably blow your.
Just for an example of why I had to feed formula besides not producing enough milk and why your food intake is so important: I had only been home a few days and wanted a snack, so I grabbed one of my favorite granola’s a “fig bar.” Now I had been told kind of by family that what you eat may affect baby, but were talking more along the lines of spicy foods and that kind of thing.. like dont eat chili sauce right? Wrong. SO WRONG. Long story short, still getting used to not only breast feeding but manually pumping as well Nehemiah ended up in screaming fits because of gas and blowing up diapers to high heaven. My poor child was miserable and in pain because of one simple granola… who would have thought? It was a whoarer night of throwing away breast milk and feeding formula instead.
As the weeks have flown by I began to notice a pattern, which was after eating crappy food Nehemiah would be in a fussy tizzy, and so my husband and I began to start meal prepping again so I would stick to healthier options that benefited both Nemo and myself. Just as a background my meals consisted of healthy green leafy options and high protein. After countless gassy days though I began to realise something.. just because they’re healthy foods does not mean thy are going to work for baby, so I compiled a list of things that can really affect baby that know one really warned me about.
So lets talk about the foods you should just automatically stay away from because of gassiness. For myself Nemo has the farts of a grown man and gets very mad and upset about it. Any moms have the same experience? Anyways just in my opinion I would cut out onions, broccoli, esperagus (I’m pretty positive I spelled that wrong, but for you wordy’s out there laugh it off), cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and beans. I have spinach or kale instead for my leafy greens.
I have also cut out all my favorite spicy foods such as sriracha and tapatio which if you know anything about me you know this literally kills my flavor buds. So if your like me just do yourself a favor and get it the hell out of your house now… yes you can do it!
I do have to say I’m still learning different things that just unfortunately don’t work for my son to eat, but this is a step in the right direction. I’m not saying you can’t indulge, just trying to prepare you as to why your child is screaming bloody murder when you have that extra hot chili, or you are giving yourself a face palm when he/she blows up a diaper so bad it squirts out all over not only their clothes but you because you decided to have a greesy hamburger from mcdonalds. Take my advice, if your going to indulge have milk pumped and ready to go. After that just be mindful of what affects you and your baby… Your Welcome!! ;D
Hey all!! Hows your day going today? I know mind got a little bit of a late start because I took the time to sleep in with little man after waking up with my husband and he went to work. Nehemiah has been having some rough grumbly nights lately. Hes not fussy, but he is making quite a bit of noise that keeps me up! 😀 I’m sure you mommas out there know exactly what I’m talking about!
And for those of you who don’t have children I’m still sure you know how it feels to just have a groggy day automatically reaching for that coffee cup, giving everyone that well known death stare of “Dont talk to me before I have my coffee.” :p
Anyways I wanted to have a little bit of flavor options when It comes to my new favorite breakfast recipe. I know I said in the other other post I drizzle a little bit of honey or agave nectar to add some added sweetness, but I am easily bored by the way my food tastes so I need some SERIOUS flavor options for my mood. I also wanted an option were I can have the sweetness paired with health benefits, so I came up with this flavor packed syrup/dressing that is also high in antioxidants and for you ladies/men who want a metabolism boost!!

Okie dokie… you are going to need that trusty blender of choice again. I will also note this again makes 1-2 servings (depending how much flavor your looking for). I also decided to try making bigger pancakes and was able to make 3 good sized ones, but being the air head I am I ended up burning all three. Although I will say that the extra crunchiness was actually pretty good!
- 1/2 cup blueberries or berries of choice (I used frozen blueberries from winco)
- 1 heaping tbsp agave nectar or raw organic honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon- (helps with inflammation, boosts metabolism, has antioxidants)
- 1/3 cup almond milk
At this time I took the blueberries and added them to a bowl to warm them up before blending all the ingredients together, because I don’t know about you but im not a fan of freezing cold syrup. I don’t feel like getting a brain freeze while chowing down on pancakes :D. I microwaved them for about 1-2 minutes (just enough to get them toasty and juices flowing).
Ok, so you have warmed up the blueberries right? Awesome! Poor them along with that juice in the bowl into a blender of choice and add all the other ingredients. Blend together for desired consistency. If you like it chunky only do it for a few seconds, if you like it runny leave it on longer and if you need to add a little more milk.
The result should look something like this:
I know, I know it doesn’t look that glamorous, but I PROMISE it is Scrum-Ditilly-Umptious… Now just poor over pancakes/waffles/crepes, or whatever else you desire and enjoy!!

What are migraines? Honestly this magical word I would not wish on my worst enemy, and if you have experienced a migraine headache or severe headache I’m sure you feel the same way.
Migraines are one of the most common headaches but also paired with the joy of impaired or spotted vision, nauseousness, and sensitivity to light. Other symptoms may be present depending on the person. Such as for myself I get to have a bright flashing light in one of my eyes, feeling extremely hot or feverish, and a pounding in my head that leads to a severe sensitivity to light. This has also lead to an inability to function depending how bad the migraine I’m having is.
For myself I had the displeasure of having my first migraine when I was 8 years old… YES! Just 8!! I bet your thinking.. there’s NO WAY! But let me tell you, yes way.
I’ll never forget the first time my vision pretty much completely disappeared on Easter Sunday. We were at a family gathering celebrating the holiday. While all the other kids got to enjoy hunting for Easter eggs I was stuck laying on a blanket under a coffee table with a bowl glued to my side and a cold water bottle pressed against my clammy and pounding head. Being only 8 years old I was terrified I was dying.
Not so fun right?
Definitely not! But here’s the news… I didnt die! 😀
Although it was extremely painful my mom new what was going on (Migraines run in our family) and so my journey of living with migraines began. It took me years, and I mean years to find something that worked in my situation. I took several different medications all of which if they did do anything would help in that moment but cause a recurring migraines.
I also tried the new hype of whats called a “Daith piercing” that is said to trigger a specific pressure point (used in acupuncture) that can help migraine sufferers. The piercing itself was extremely painful, and although I left it in for several months I did not see any progress in the amount of migraines I was having.

At this point I was extremely discouraged, thinking I would be stuck with a pain that would leave me missing out on things I loved to do when one would come along. I myself was having at least 1-2 migraines a week, and sometimes they would continue for several days.
After years of living with them and just learning to cope with them I recieved the happy news of being pregnant. At the time I was working at a desk job and thought nothing of it, but as my pregnancy progressed my migraines began to come more often. Instead of the usual 1-2 migraines a week, it turned into 4-5. My life was a blur of pain and misery. I was no longer able to function at work and was unable to take any medication due to my pregnancy.
I know.. it seems quite pitiful.. but I promise it gets better!
After dealing with this for a few months I decided to meet with a neurologist what I could do while being pregnant. This leads me to the 2 magic pills I take daily to combat my migraines. Now I have to say, this is what works for me, but if it comes down to it its worth a try right?
The first is MAGNESIUM OXCIDE which is an important mineral for the proper function of bone health, proper heart function, supporting a healthy immune system, etc. It is also the fourth most plentiful mineral in the human body. How does magnesium help you might ask? Well in several studies it has been shown that migraine sufferers may have a low amount of magnesium therefore leading to a natural preventative or way to combat migraines. I myself take two 400mg tablets daily, and while I do still sometimes have migraines still my number has decreased to about 2 a MONTH. Whereas before as you know I was having several a week. I call that a WIN!!
The next thing that has helped my migraines is VITAMIN B2 also known as riboflavin. This vitamin is one of the 8 important vitamins for the body which help to convert food into fuel. These vitamins are responsible for healthy liver, eyes, skin, and help the nervous system function properly. Studies have suggested that this vitamin can help to reduce the frequency as well as how long a persons migraines occur. I myself take one tablet daily to help with my migraines.
Now I do want to say again this is what has helped me to be able to live with my migraines. I havnt had the miracle of getting rid of them completely, but these two vitamins paired with a healthy diet and excercise has helped me tremendously. I would highly suggest trying this if you are a migraine sufferer like myself. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me!!

Ok guys, I dont know about you but being a new mother and breast feeding I’m always worried about if I’m producing enough milk for my son Nehemiah. I have resorted to pumping threw-out the day and bottle feeding him what I pump to truly see not only how much I am producing but how much he eats, and sense he does not complain at night letting him get it straight from the tap. ;p
I chose to do this for myself because for about a week he began getting extremely fussy leaving me to hold him all day and not get the things done I wanted to, such as cleaning the house. Which is a super important thing to do because my husband works and we have three big shedding German shepherds. This can put a damper on my house as their fur balls tend to develop their own personal vendetta against our air quality!
Anyways.. sense Nemo was having a few fussy days I began to be concerned about what I was producing, and after confirming this while pumping hardly anything I did some research. Now the only thing my research told me was how expensive lactation products are including tea, cookies, bars, etc. So this brings me to making my own yummy products.
I wanted to stay as healthy as possible while also getting my sweet fix but I will say you can get the ingredients from any store, they Do not have to be organic.
I have a few different recipes to promote healthy lactation (paired with consistent pumping threw- out the day) but to start this is my 5 minute brownie mug cake. I love this cake because its the perfect amount of fluffiness and sweetness to get my fix while providing protein for a snack or a yummy dessert. I do have to say this is not just for lactation but a healthy dessert alternative for ANYONE who loves chocolate!! I hope you enjoy!
1 large mug
1 extra ripe bannana
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/4 cup ground oats (oat flower)
1 tbsp ground flax (I got mine from walmart)
1 tsp Brewers Yeast (I got mine from amazon)
1 tsp cinnamon
small handful of 64% cocoa choc chips
Ok, this is when it gets fun.. mix all ingredients but the chips in the mug with a fork, fold all ingredients together and then add the chocolate chips. Microwave on high for 1 min. Check the consistency and add another minute if needed. If you would like a chocolate syrup I made a healthy version:
1 tbsp raw organic honey, or agave nectar
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp almond milk… microwave a few seconds and mix together. poor over cake for added sweetness.
And there you have it!! A wonderful healthy alternative to a candy bar that promotes lactation. How does it do this might you ask? Well upon doing research they’re are a few ingredients in this recipe that promote lactation: Bananas, Brewers yeast, flax, and oats. Thats it!! Ahhh parent hood.. Such a wonderful blessing and miracle of life, isnt it? Just the fact a woman has the ability to push a human being out of her who hah is amazing in itself. ;D .. not to mention how far technology has come to provide other means of bringing life into this world as well!! am I right?
In all seriousness though, what does it really take to be a parent? what is the “Nitty Gritty” of being a parent? Simply put being a parent includes sacrifice. You are now responsible for a life.. pretty scary right? Take a breath its ok… you can stop pulling out your hair. Although sacrifice includes lack of sleep, constant cold meals (which includes shoveling food down as if your in an eating competition), and a wheel barrows full of poopy diapers…
WHAT IS THE NITTY GRITTY OF PARENTHOOD?
Well being a parent is looking at the life you just brought into this world and experiencing the most amazing form of love you could ever feel. It is truly an unexplainable miracle of crashing emotions. Emotions that include: Love (of course), fear, strength, determination, expectation… need I go on?? I didn’t think so…
Parenthood is waking up at 2..3…and 4 o’clock in the morning rubbing your eyes while changing a nasty blown out diaper wondering how the hell he/she could have accomplished such a blow out with a liquid diet of milk… no matter how healthy or shitty you eat.. I mean COME ON!!
Parenthood is for you women out there breast feeding… waking up countless times to simply shove your boob in his/her face so you can just get some shut eye while they’re eating, but then sadly jerking awake as they chomp on your nipple, And for you mamas/daddy’s feeding formula (I seriously commend you) waking up every couple hours to make a bottle.
Being a parent is walking in the other room to cry and scream in a pillow as your little one screams in the background and you have tried everything to comfort them… Its OK!!

I think we can all agree the “Nitty Gritty” of parenthood is alot.. I mean I have literally only been a mother for six weeks now and the amount of effort it takes to be a parent is crazy. But that brings me to the next “Nitty Gritty” of parenthood:
IS IT OK TO LEAVE YOUR NEWBORN/INFANT?
YES! YES! YES! No matter what anyone tells you, wether you are a single mother/father, married, in a relationship, step parent, etc it is extremely important to know you CAN take a moment to yourself.
I know I know its hard, especially if they are a newborn, being a mother to a newborn myself it is extremely difficult to leave him. But it is extremely important for new parents and even parents with older children to not only have a moment to themselves (I call it the “Me Refreshment Time”) you need time with friends, and if you have a spouse your relationship needs nurturing as much as your child!!
IT doesnt have to cost anything, just asking someone to watch baby/child while you have friends for dinner, go for a walk, have a self dance party (YES blare the music and shake all the stress of parenthood away). Believe me… It makes your JOB (Yes parenthood IS a JOB) soooo much easier.. (You can thank me later).
So the nitty gritty of parenthood is there is ALOT that goes into it including sleepless nights, some serious diaper duty, some days of both you and child crying, but also pure bliss and love… Just dont forget to give yourself some credit.. YOUR DOING GREAT… Give yourself a moment… and come back feeling refreshed. If all else fails LAUGH it off.. and PRAY for courage, strength, and guidance. <3<3<3<3
Its a world wide fad right? Everyone wants to get fit.
Between the social media posters such as Instagram, Facebook, twitter, and Pinterest everyone has a wonderfully perfect body and has a perfect solution how to become “fit”and “sexy”.
Now lets get real. I am sure in the hell not the skinniest woman in the world. I mean come on I was just pregnant six weeks ago. But when you see pictures of not only women but men as well with perfect bodies and no start point, it kind of puts a damper on self esteem doesn’t it? It can also give you a serious drive to work out and go crazy fitness wise to get to that point. But at what cost if you don’t know how they got there?
I mean come on lets be honest about Instagram fitness posts. Fitness is Not pretty, glamorous, sexy, or EASY.
I should know. 5 years ago I was 198 pounds, at which point feeling depressed and disgusted with myself my boyfriend who is now my husband encouraged me to work on my health… I’m sure y’all are reading this like what the hell is she talking about?
Well lets be realistic. The pictures posted on Instagram for example include perfect lighting, flexing, and posing extremely particular.
Confession: Being a body shamer myself, I’ve tried this out. After taking about 20 pictures, and having to flex every part of my body at the same time (Which is quite an accomplishment in my book) ;P. I began to think why am I even doing this?
That brings me to ask you why do you want to get fit? Because the truth of fitness as our society believes it is having a perfect body, but where is the blood, sweat, and crying over having no carbs?! (This is a serious life accomplishment for me)
I mean come on!! Get real, FOOD is life… and honestly seeing photos like that makes people want to starve themselves. When in reality guess what? Choosing to be healthy for YOU instead of the pictures you see on social media is much more inspiring and rewarding.
How cool is it when you see before and after pictures of women who went threw the blisters on your hands, cramping legs, and self control not mowing threw a bag of chips in self pitty :D.
The nitty gritty is fitness and health aint pretty- Weather you look at it from society’s perspective which includes starving yourself and flexing unnecessarily. Or the truth of sweating like crazy, eating consistently, and allowing yourself the benefit. DONT be so hard on yourself!
Fitness is awesome when its REAL ;] can I get an AMEN?!
